Freda L. Stewart-Lasley, 70, of Centralia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024, after a brief illness.
She was born to Lena (Bell) McGee on December 31, 1953 in Centralia, Illinois.
Freda is survived by her brothers and sisters: Paul McGee and wife Barbara of Wisconsin, Dianne Pester of Kansas City, Missouri, Dennis McGee of Centralia, Anthonnette Strowder-Evans of Centralia, Clarice McGee of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Anthony McGee and wife Ann of Centralia, Charles McGee and wife Bonnie of Centralia, and Johnny Wallace and wife Jackie of Little Rock, AR; a special niece Effie McGee and great niece Tautiana Rodgers and nephew Joseph McGee and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lena McGee, a daughter, Shayla Matrice Stewart, grandparents: Booker and Emma McGee; three brothers: James Mosley McGee, Roy McGee, and William Earl McGee, three sisters: JoAnn McGee, Helen McGee, Robin McGee, and Janet McGee.
Freda was a member of the Second Baptist Church and was a former teacher at Mt. Vernon Public Schools. She loved her students and got so much joy teaching them. She loved her family and friends and cherished the time she spent making memories.
Funeral services for Freda Stewart-Lasley will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 1:00pm at the City Hope Church in Centralia with Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until time of service on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia. Memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street in Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to Freda's Family.
