Freddie Sue Coffey Hughes, 91, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center with her family by her side.
She was born in Gaston County on February 27, 1933 to the late Fred and Flossie Hall Coffey. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Marvin Gene Hughes, (who passed on 9-24-1989), her only sister, Evie Pearson.
Sue was a member of Ranlo Baptist Church and dearly loved her church and her church family. She enjoyed writing poetry, puzzles and traveling. She ziplines at the age of 80 and couldn’t wait to do it again. She made the BEST biscuits ever; and was the best mom and grandmother.
She loved her family and everyone she met. Sue was a kind woman that never turned anyone away and always showed loved to those around her. She was a loving mom, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.
She is survived by her beloved son, Marvin Gene “Bo” Hughes, Jr. ; daughter, Vickey Rimmer (Tommy); sister-in-law, Jane Hughes; grandchildren, Misty Falls (Mike), Scott Rice (Heather); step grandchildren, Brandy Jones (Nathan), Kimberly Starrett (Charles), Chris Rimmer, Misty Nicole Thornburg, and Holly Simmons; 16 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren; and several wonderful nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Ranlo Baptist Church. A Memorial service will take place following the visitation on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 4:00 p. m, at the church with Pastor James Land officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Gaston Memorial Park.
