Fred and Dorithy taugh me so much about Gods ,word back in 1969 in Port Alice BC. Dorithy was so loving in teaching us, myself,Pat, Hambly and other ladies how to pray. It was for me, the begining of my relationship with my Lord. My symphathy to the family. May you find comfort knowing that your loved ones seeds they planted have blessed many people.

Years ago in the 60's and early 70's we were teachers living in Port Alice. We met both Fred and Dorothy there and had a wonderful relationship with them.

We respected Fred so much. He and Dorothy brought a breath of fresh air to a growing, stuggling church in Port Alice. His kind and loving ways have never been forgotten.

I can count Dorothy as my first mentor in Christian things. She led a group of 7 ladies (including me) in a teaching and prayer group. That is where I was schooled in prayer and began to trust the Lord and believe for His miracles. She related many stories from her experience and Port Alberni of the Lord's healing hand.

We hadn't heard anything about the Austin's until we read the Times Colonist last week. How wonderful that Fred has led a very long and very fruitful life. We are sad but also joyful that they are now both with the Saviour that the served to well. They were a blessing to us.

We send our sympathies to the family of the Austin's and pray you will be blessed with the knowledge that both their lives touched ours in wonderful ways........... unknown to you.

With our very sincere sympathy and blessings,
Pat and Bernie Hambly

I am very sorry that, because of transportation difficulties, I am not able to attend the memorial service. I join with many, many others in giving thanks for Fred's life, witness, and ministry and in assuring the family of our sympathy and prayers at this time.

I met Fred in 1969 when I came to serve in Nanaimo. He was a welcoming, encouraging friend from then on. I have vivid memories of conversations with him (and Dorothy) at Port Alberni, Port Hardy and then, after his retirement, at Port again. He was such a dedicated Biblical student and teacher, an enthusiastic gardener, and an amazing mountain climber. It was about these things that we spoke many times and especially in my visits to Saint Alban's/Trinity during my eleven years as Bishop of the Diocese.

I join in saying, "Well done, good and faithful servant, Fred. May you rest in Peace and rise, with Christ, in Glory".
