Fredrick J. Barnes-Lovingly known as Fred, Dad, Papa, and Great Papa-passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, at the age of 83. His Life was defined by devotion, steadiness, and an unwavering love for his family, who were his greatest pride.
Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diane C. Barnes, with whom he shared a lifetime of partnership and cherished memories.
He is survived by his sons, Jeffery J. Barnes, Sr. and Todd L. Barnes, and their families, who continue to carry forward the values he instilled. Fred's son Jeffery J. Barnes, Sr., his wife Melony Barnes, and their two children-Jeffery J. Barnes, Jr. and Malory Barnes-remember him as a guiding presence whose strength and kindness shaped their Lives.
His son Todd L. Barnes, his wife Jensin a Barnes, and their children hold equally dear memories. Fred's granddaughter Cayla Wilson, her husband Luke Wilson, and their daughter Leia Wilson brought him immense joy, as did his grandson Garrett Barnes, who shared a special bond with his Papa.
Fred dedicated nearly fifteen years as a volunteer with the Manatee Memorial Thrift, where he served with consistency, generosity, and a deep sense of purpose. He also contributed his time and creativity to the Manatee High School Alumni banquets, designing and assembling floral displays that became a cherished part of those annual celebrations. His community work reflected the same commitment and kindness that defined every part of his life.
As a Great Papa, Fred found deep happiness in watching the next generation grow. His quiet wisdom, easy laughter, and gentle heart created a sense of home wherever he was.
Fred will be remembered not only for the life he lived but for the love he gave, steadfast, patient, and generous. His family will carry his spirit forward in the traditions, lessons, and memories he leaves behind.
At this time, there are no plans for a format service. For those who feel moved to honor Fred's memory, the family kindly asks that instead of flowers, you can make a donation in his honor to any organization of your choosing, reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others.
