Frederick Ollie Byrom, age 94, passed away peacefully in his loved Fayetteville home on 15 December 2023.
Born into humble beginnings in Huntsville, Alabama on September 6 1929, Fred later joined the Army on 10 August 1949 to grow his profession in supply and commissary management. Foreign duty assignments took him to Germany, Korea, Vietnam, Italy and Thailand. Fred and Family chose Fayetteville to retire from military service on August 31, 1971 as a Sergeant First Class. Later professions perused involved logistics and supply management experiences.
In retirement, Fred was well known for taking annual vacation trips to Italy, Slovenia and Germany to enjoy mountain hiking with extended Family plus regional fine cuisine and golfing with all.
Surviving Fred are his loving wife Nerina who attentively cared for Fred during his declining health, his sister Margie, children James and David and Nerina’s children Claretta and Ambra. Italian Families are well known to be close and extended. Fred enjoyed collateral and enduring support from a devout network of long term close friends Iolanda and daughter Giovanna Gordon and Denise Ortiz and Family, plus so many others.
A hallmark of Fred’s character and forward thinking - he insured his spouse Nerina has the needed long term support, care and foundation essential to her needs.
The family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 pm on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Sullivan's Highland, 610 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville NC 28301.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at noon at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
