Frederick Arnold Carr
(1935 – 2023)
Fred was born in Newcastle, Wyoming on February 15, 1935, to his parents Leo Charles Carr and Mary Agnes Brennan Carr. He was raised in the Newcastle area and attended Newcastle schools graduating in 1953.
Fred met his lifelong mate, Leona Faye Sorenson, and they were married at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Newcastle on July 1, 1955. Fred and Leona raised a family of five children including; Doug (Susie) Carr of Gillette, WY, Christie (Brian) Wornkey of Newcastle, WY, Carol (Larry) Parker of Granbury, TX, Duane Carr of Duval, WA, and Leo (Pamela) Carr of Newcastle, WY.
Fred grew up as a cowboy on his father’s ranch south of Newcastle. After graduating from Newcastle High School, he pursued careers in oil and gas as well as transportation industries. His career was spent working as a roustabout and production supervisor in the oil industry in the Newcastle area. He also worked as conductor for BN Railroad as well as a truck driver for Dixon Brothers. He owned and managed Carr’s Texaco service station providing fuel and mechanic service for the Newcastle community. Fred retired as a production supervisor for Meridian Oil in 1993. He spent his retirement years driving bus for Weston County School District, helping his son Doug with his growing cattle herd as well as enjoying the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who became part of his life.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Mary Carr, his brother Warren Carr, his brother-in-law Paul Sybrant, his sister-in-law Bonita Carr, and his daughter-in-law Jodi Carr.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Leona, his five children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Fred is also survived by his sisters Lee Sybrant of Grand Junction, CO, Kathy (Ed) Gibbs of Newcastle, WY and brother Larry Carr of Hazen, ND.
Funeral services and Mass will be held at 10 am on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Newcastle, Wyoming. The Rosary will be held at Meridian Mortuary at 6 pm Wednesday, December 20, 2023.
The burial will be at Greenwood cemetery following the funeral and reception will be held at the Newcastle Lodge following the burial.
A memorial has been established to Weston County Manor Residence Activity Fund.
