Frederick Jacob Fogarty (aka Paul/Fred) was born in Jamaica on August 9, 1951, and died on November 26, 2021, at 10:30 am at the age of 70. His parents, Kenneth (aka Baba) Fogarty and Leholda (aka Miss Lee) instilled education, love, and pride in the Fogarty family.
Fred grew up in Majestic Garden, and as a young adult he later moved to Pembroke Hall in Jamaica, West Indies. He attended St. Andrew Technical High School in Kingston, where he excelled academically. He had a passion for the sciences, and was gifted in physics and mathematics. He also excelled in sports and was an avid soccer player. On March 30, 1970, the Daily Cleaner newspaper, highlighted Fred as winning the game. As a Tennis player, he ranked first in the national championship, with his brother taking second place.
Mr. Fogarty attended the College of Art, Science, and Technology (CAST) in Kingston, Jamaica, where he concentrated in Marketing. Some may not know this but after graduating, he was selected by IBM to travel to Chiapas, Mexico for work. It was a significant accomplishment being the first Jamaican to work abroad for such a large institution.
Fred immigrated to America in December 1977, where he worked with Xerox in Washington, D.C., and lived with his sister, Joan (aka June). Both remained close throughout his life. Fred settled in the sunshine state of Fort Lauderdale, Florida as he preferred the warmer climate. There he continued to work for Xerox, which he had many fond memories of, and would often tell stories of his time working there.
Brilliance is in the eye of the beholder! In Fred's spare time, he enjoyed pulling apart computers and putting them together. Professionally, he held several technology certificates, and would often obtain them just for fun. He was knowledgeable on advanced technology such as C++ and Fuzzy logic. Due to personal reasons, he took a long stint from work and later retired at the age of 65. He continued to live in Florida for a total of 35 years until his death.
Fred was a very handsome fella with a bright smile and certainly a ladies' man, even into his later years. He was a serious person to some but to many he was humble, light-hearted, and an overall laidback and likable guy.
All will remember his quiet laughter, and at times his dry humor. "Don't worry, about a thing, 'Cause every little thing, gonna be all right" speaks true to his carefree and easy-going nature. He lived life both the good and not so good. As a human, he struggled as many do with their own inner conflicts but overall he reached out and stayed connected with his children and loved ones.
Mr. Fogarty is survived by his four beloved children, David Fogarty, Francine Fogarty (aka Francine Braverman-Iacovou), Farrah Fogarty, and Jason Fogarty Gray. His eldest sister, Joan Levermore, and her husband Patrick. His brother, George aka Bobby Fogarty, and his wife Blossom. His sister Angela Fogarty. His six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends. He will reunite in heaven with loved ones, including his parents Baba and Miss Lee, as well as his sisters Lenna and Monica Fogarty.
