Frederick Forsyth, lovingly remembered as Pop, Dad, and Fred by his family, passed away on February 9th, 2023 in Baltimore, MD following a difficult medical course. Fred was born in Towson, Maryland to Evelyn and George Forsyth Sr. on August 27th, 1943. Fred was the youngest of a blended family and his siblings, Iris Will and the late James, George and Lois Forsyth and Bob Will, always considered him the baby.
As a young man, Fred was the life of the party and prone to getting himself into trouble. As he aged, he seemed to forget he was getting old and, no matter how sick he became, was always ready to "kick someone's ass". Though, his family would sometimes catch him crying about sentimental commercials, which undermined his tough guy facade a bit.
His family was the most important thing in his life. Though he struggled with alcoholism as a young man, he made the choice of sobriety for the well-being of his wife Jamie Forsyth and his children Stacie R. Richardson, F. James "Jimmy" Forsyth, and Bryan F. Forsyth (wife Mysty). He remained sober for over 30 years. Looking back on those days, he would recount the stories of his foolhardy youth and laugh at the hilarious miscalculations and mistakes he had made, such as the time he walked over 40 miles from Baltimore to Union Mill, MD. There was also the time while serving he was considered AWOL for 3 days because his superior officer sent him to get a "skyhook" and he returned with a hook on a balloon. During conversations with his grandchildren, Fred shared that making the choice to become sober ultimately saved his life and allowed him to live so many years surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the love of his life, Jamie.
Fred and Jamie were married on May 19th, 1973. Jamie and Fred had the kind of relationship where they spent a lot of time teasing each other and driving the other a little crazy, but underneath it all, it was very clear that Fred loved Jamie very deeply and she loved him in return. He would tell his grandchildren that Jamie was the best thing to ever happened to him. Fred loved to travel with his wife, and they enjoyed taking multiple hour car rides just to pick up some peaches, have a salad, and enjoy the scenery together. Jamie loved him so much; she even gave him one of her kidneys.
His children remember playing pranks on him, including the pantsing incident that led Fred to scorn shorts for the rest of his life. Like many dads, he would repeat the same stories. He always had a joke. Every song he heard was performed by whoever the popular band was of the time, and he would sometimes sing a much more lewd version of the Dwarf's song from Snow White. He had many grandchildren: Sierra Richardson, Sydney Faw (nee Richardson) and her husband Brendan, J. T. Snead, Kenzie Forsyth, Vernon Forsyth, Izabella Forsyth, Cassidy Forsyth, Bryan Forsyth, Jr., and the late Brandon Forsyth. Fred loved making them giggle when they were small with Donald Duck impersonations and jokes about tiny mice riding through the room on tiny motorcycles.
Fred will be remembered with love and laughter by all members of his family and the friends that knew him. Family and friends will honor and celebrate Fred's life at Evans Life Celebration Home-Parkville, 8800 Harford Road on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 6-8 PM.
