My own father passed away when my son, Presten 13, was 18 months old. Presten started in the day care center at 2. Fred became a grandfather figure for him. Fred shared his love of golf with him. Took him to the driving range. Fred made a huge impact in our lives. We will miss him forever!! Presten ate a Mcdonalds cheeseburger in memory of Fred after the mass on Friday.

As I sit here and write this my eyes fill with tears and my heart fills with love. Uncle Fred you were one of the greatest man that I have ever known. You could bring the best out of anything and anyone. No matter how down I was in life, just your smile would make me lift my head and be proud of who I was. Your laughter would make me smile and your hug would make me feel loved. I am going to miss you Uncle, but I know you will taking care of us from above.

To the Franco Family
I have only fond memories of the Franco family. Mom and us kids used to pick them up to go to North Highland school. The Franco's were some of the finest people we knew. May God grant you peace.

Mary - I met you at the Scottsbluff mall quite a few years ago. I was walking by when this man said,Carole Gross? I said yes wondering who was talking to me. Freddie said he recognized my voice as I walked by him, really quite amazing considering I had not seen him since high school. He was one great guy and I am so sorry for your loss. Carole Gross

I attended the mass today. It was a beautiful mass. Fred and Anna Marie did a great job showing how Fred Sr was loved and respected not only as a father but as husband, grandfather, teacher and member of the community. I'm honored to have known him. I will miss his welcoming smile. May you be comforted that he is now watching over you and be waiting with open arms as you join him in heaven someday

My prayers are with Mary and Kids. I met Fred in 1958. He lived with us for a year and Graduated from Melbeta in 1959. He was like a brother to me for that year and many years thereafter. When he came to see us after his time in Guam. He had a great heart and was always open to everyone. He helped Melbeta to many great memories with his athletic ability. I believe the team won the district tournament in 1959. He was either 1st or 2nd (I think he beat a kid from Dix) at the Nebraska State 880 yard run in Lincoln in 1959. I last saw Fred in 1995 at the Melbeta Reunion. Unfortunately, it was at the hospital. I also met his children then. There can be no one that can replace Fred in my heart. Grant Clark

The Francos were a big part of my high school experience. When Mary became our cheerleading coach, my best friend and I nicknamed them Aunt Mary and Uncle Fred and they embraced us with their love.

So glad I got to meet Fred. The time spent with all of you is one of my most cherished memories. He was happy, joyful, and full of love, which makes me sorrowful for his family, for I know that love will be missed. To the family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I love you.

Franco Family...
I am so sorry and my family will miss Fred deeply. Both Fred & Mary have been such dear friends to us for several years. I met you both working for the Head Start Program and loved you right away! He was so proud of his family. We will miss our conversations about the Nebraska Corn Huskers games and all of the children dear to you in your daycare. You will be forever in our hearts & prayers and will always be just a phone call away.

One of our fondest memories from Susanville was meeting and getting to know, respect, and love the entire Franco family. If you ever walked away from Fred not knowing and liking him, it was your own fault as he really didn't know a stranger. "Robust," in all aspects of his life, is my best one-word description and definition of Fred. Our prayers for all of you during this sad and difficult time.
