Frederick Joseph Gruhler "Hans" of Ridley Park passed away suddenly on September 12, 2013 at his home. He is survived by his wife Debra Mary Jacono Gruhler, father of Alissa Marie Gruhler, son of Roseanne Iacono of Ridley Twp. and Joseph Gruhler(Debbie) of Morton; sister Milissa Gruhler Hamlin of Ridley Twp.; step-sister Jackie McCauley of Phila; step-brother Joseph Gruhler Jr. of Morton; also survived by Peg Jacono Adams (Kirk) of Ridley Park and Gina Jacono and Jennifer Jacono. Predeceased by his maternal grandparents Fred and Dorothy Iacono and paternal grandparents Fred and Elizabeth Gruhler and his father in law William J. "Bucky" Jacono. Fred was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. A 1983 graduate of Ridley High School he was elected to Ridley Park Boro Council and also served as a Republican Committeeman for Ridley Park. He was employed as a mechanic for Boeing for the past 27 years. A past captain of the United States National Rugby League Team the Patriots he also played for the AMNRL Tomahawks; Wilmington Rugby Union, Media Rugby Club; Wolfpack Union and League, Media Mantarays League, and Philadelphia Whitemarsh Rugby Club. Fred was also the head coach of the wrestling and rugby clubs at Swarthmore College; Assistant Coach of Friends Central wrestling; Assistant Coach of Ridley High School wrestling and head coach of the Media Mantarays Rugby Team. As a hazmat specialist Fred also served as a firefighter and was a certified EMT for Woodlyn Fire Co. 67. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. till 10:45 a.m. at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church Fairview Rd. Swarthmore followed by his funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Int Private preceded by Cremation with Confidence at Cavanagh's. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the American National Rugby League USA Tomahawks c/o F. Kirk Adams Esq. 6 East Hinckley Ave. Ridley Park, Pa. 19078.
