Frederick Milens Obituary
Fred enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1943, reaching the rank of flight officer. He piloted C-47 aircraft, serving in the European theatre of operations in Italy. After the war, he taught aerobatics at Sussex County Airport. Fred was a proud 67-year member of Carpenter Local Union #253, a 45-year member of the Byram Planning Board, member of Byram Senior Citizens Club and the VFW Post 15031. Fred enjoyed collecting pre-war Lionel trains and accessories and still owned a Blue Comet train set from 1937 that he loved to show his friends.
He was predeceased by his brothers, William and Charles Milens, and his beloved son, Frederick J. Milens Jr. Fred is survived by his loving wife, of 69 years, Clara Goble Milens. He is the father of Douglas Milens and his wife, Maureen, of Byram, and Patricia Leasure and her husband, Donald, of Byram. He is also survived by his grandsons, Frederick Milens III and his wife, Ashanna, of Dixon, Ill., Samuel A. Milens, of Byram; sister-in-law, Evelyn Milens; and two nieces and one cousin.
Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 25, followed by a funeral service at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to: Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice Foundation, 99 Sparta Ave., Newton, NJ 07860.

Clara and Family - Just returned from travel to hear of your loss. Fred was a solid contributor to the betterment of Byram Township. I will best remember him contemplating his votes on issues before the Planning Board. Regret I never got to speak with him about his WWII flying days nor his years growing up in Denville as I did some years after him. Would have been interesting for sure. May he rest in peace.

Fred was a big influence in my younger years. He had quite a work ethic, I always loved the whole family. They treated me like a family member. R.I.P Fred.
