Frederick James "Jamie" Osborn Sr., 88, of
Redfield, SD, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. A scriptural prayer service, rosary, and time of sharing will begin at 6:00 p.m. A gathering will follow for family and friends at Chrystal's in Redfield.
His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 30, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield with Reverend John Short officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Redfield. After the committal service, lunch will be served in the church hall.

Frederick James "Jamie" Osborn Sr. was born on March 22, 1937, to parents Leon and Mamie (Albrecht) Osborn at the Baldwin Hospital in Redfield. Jamie graduated from Redfield High School in 1955. He showed cattle in FFA and won a blue ribbon.
Jamie joined the Army National Guard in 1954 and served until 1962, where he was on the SD Rifle and Pistol Team. He worked on the family farm with his dad, Leon, and farmed full-time in 1962.
In 1961, he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Akin, and they married at St. Bernard Catholic Church on December 30, 1961. They celebrated their 64th anniversary in December, 2025. While they were busy raising a family of eight, Jamie and Mary Ann also hosted AFS exchange students from Norway (Dag), Iceland (Linda), Italy (Giorgio), Germany (Jonas) & Turkey (Asli). Jamie and Mary Ann also hosted pheasant hunters over the years from Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, Kansas & Wisconsin.
Jamie was an avid hunter and fisherman. His bucket list included fishing in Alaska with his boys, elk & moose hunting, and shooting a buffalo. He enjoyed celebrating his birthdays in Deadwood dressed in old west attire with his kids and grandkids. Jamie loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and made silly faces whenever he could to make them laugh. Jamie enjoyed visiting and drinking coffee with the guys at Johnson Oil.
Jamie worked various jobs in the community while being a farmer. He bartended at the Supper Club and The Lounge and his favorite job was driving school bus for over 20 years for the Redfield School District. Jamie was known for handing out tootsie pops to the kids.
Jamie is preceded in death by his parents Leon and Mamie Osborn, brother Sheldon and great-grandchild, Iris Osborn. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann (Akin) Osborn, and their children: Charles and Kathy of Albertville, MN; Hollee and Mike Ford of Lennox, SD; Jacque and Annette of Aberdeen, SD; Scott and Brenda of Rapid City, SD; Timothy of
Redfield, SD; Heidee and David Stoebner of Aberdeen, SD; Frederick James Jr., of
Redfield, SD and Theodore and Christina of Sioux Falls, SD. Jamie is also survived by his 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several sisters- and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
