Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perry Funeral Home - Newark on Feb. 17, 2026.
Deacon Frederick Samuel Williams was born in
Brooklyn, New York on February 26, 1956 to David Mitchell Williams and Mary Catherine Saunders Williams. "Fred", as he was lovingly called, was very creative from an early age. For fun he created puppets, gave them amusing characteristics using them to create puppet shows in his house for the children in the community. He also taught himself to play the piano playing tunes by ear.
Educated in the New York City Public Schools, Fred graduated in 1974 from the New HS in
Brooklyn, New York. Fred's love of music led him to York College where he majored in Music and Theatre. While there he performed in various talent shows and won many of them.
Fred started a non-profit organization called Innervisions. Innervisions gave young performers an opportunity to showcase their vocal and theatrical talents off Broadway. He directed performances of the Wiz, Showing Off, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide, Sophisticated Ladies, Dream Girls and a Fats Waller Review where he played Fats Waller. Not only did Fred direct these performances, he designed the scenery, taught the music and played for the performances. He and his brother Milton designed the costumes for several of these performances.
Over the years, Fred played for various school concerts and choirs, and accompanied many solo artists. He would always say, "Beautiful, beautiful" after playing for or watching an artist perform. Fred also received many awards for his dedication to music and his accomplishments in the music field.
Fred received Christ at an early age and was raised in Triumph, the Church of the New Age where he became the Minister of Music. His favorite song was "The Storm Is Passing Over". In April of 1994 Fred was ordained a Deacon alongside his brother Bishop Robert H. Williams. To further his theological training Fred attended Brooklyn Tabernacle Deliverance Center and in 1996 received a Bachelor's degree in Christian Education. He earned a Master's in Theology from St. Augustine's Theological Institute in 1997. After his graduation Fred started the Triumph Bible Institute in 1998. He successfully created the Sunday School Book design and lessons for Triumph Church. Fred also had a certificate in youth counselling and counselled youth in the Tri-State area.
Fred was a cheerful giver and he loved making people happy. One of Fred's joys was decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas and Easter. At Christmas he went over and above wrapping gifts. At Easter he made baskets for everyone, but he especially enjoyed making them for the seniors and the children. Fred was a "Master Chef" who enjoyed cooking and baking. Two of his specialties were deviled eggs and carrot cakes.
Frederick's laughter was contagious very much like his mother. He loved his family and always encouraged the young men around him to do their very best.
Fred worked for the United States Postal Service for forty-four years. He worked as a statistical programmer for the district and a trainer of employees. It is here Fred met his loving wife Darlene.
Fred is preceded in death by his mother Mary C, father David, brother David Jr. (Mitch), and his nephew Robert O'Donald Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Darlene, brothers Bishop Robert H. Williams (Thomasina), Milton F. Williams, Shawn Horne (Joanne) and Aaron Horne, sisters Pastor Regina L. Williams, Mary E. Williams and Juliette Williams, nieces Paula M. Williams and Kayla Horne, nephews, Adonis Williams, Aaron (AJ) Horne, Travaughn Horne and Terrell Cox (Lisa), great nephews Jose Stable, Bryan Mowatt, Drevon Williams, Jonte Wammack, and Stephon Williams, great niece Chloe, great-great niece Serenity Stable, and a host of cousins, friends and co-workers.
