Fredia Walls Basham, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, quietly left this world on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, surrounded by love. Born on October 14, 1952, in McDaniels, Kentucky, Fredia was the cherished daughter of the late Charlie E. and Zeta Carwile Walls.
Fredia brought warmth and joy to everyone she met. She found happiness in cooking for her loved ones and sitting at the picnic table under the tree, sharing stories and laughter with friends and neighbors. Her greatest joy, however, came from watching the children play and cherishing every moment spent with her family.
Fredia's spirit will live on through her adoring daughter, Tonya Whobrey, her two brothers, Johnny and Donny Walls, and her four grandsons: Luke (Rachel) and Cole Decker, along with Nathan and Caleb Whobrey. She will also be dearly remembered by her great granddaughter, Hazel Decker, and great grandson, Judson Decker. Additionally, she leaves behind her nephew, Charles (Amanda) Robinson, and her great nephew, Charles Robinson, Jr.
She is now reunited in peace with her late husband, Wendel "Pete" Basham, her brother Charles Walls, her sister Barbara Robinson and her husband, Larry, as well as her grandson, Alexander Hayden Whobrey.
The celebration of Fredia's life will take place at Leitchfield Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather for visitation on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 9:00 AM until the service time. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, led by Bro. Doug Edwards. Following the service, Fredia will be laid to rest at Holly Cemetery, a final resting place where her loved ones can visit and remember her kindness.
In this difficult time, let us honor Fredia's memory by sharing stories and smiles, just as she would have wanted. Online condolences can be shared at www.leitchfieldfh.com.
