Fredonia “Dawn” Mercer Sharbono, 87, of Alto, LA, was born March 3, 1938, and passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 17, 2025. Dawn was a long-time member of Alto Baptist Church. Her favorite bible verse was “but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
A private graveside service was held on October 20, 2025, at Gwin Cemetery in Mangham, LA. The service was officiated by Brother Alan Miller and Brother David Shirley.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Mercer Sr. “Buddy” and Emma Brunson Mercer; brothers William Henry Mercer Jr. “Dock” and Lynn Mercer; and her beloved son, Carey Michael “Mike” Sharbono.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Carey Shelton Sharbono; her children, Rene Childress (Danny) of Baton Rouge, LA; Mark Sharbono of Hebert, LA, and daughter-in-law Kaye Sharbono of Delhi, LA. As well as her brothers, Ronnie Mercer of Alto, LA, and Larry Mercer of Houston, TX.
She is survived by seven grandchildren, Chad Sharbono (Maggie) of Katy, TX; Kayla Coots (Jacob) of Prairieville, LA; Dr. Taylar Childress of Baton Rouge, LA; Caleb Sharbono of Monroe, LA; Katie Stansbury (Ricky) of Start, LA; AnnaMichael Adams (Brandon) of Alto, LA; Jonah Sharbono (Molly) of Sterlington, LA.
Dawn is also survived by 7 beautiful great-grandchildren: Molly Sharbono, Meredith Sharbono, Ayden Coots, Samuel Coots, Alexander McKeithen, Lorelei McKeithen, and Lina Rose Adams; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Chad Sharbono, Caleb Sharbono, Brian Mercer, Danny Childress, Brandon Adams, and Bill Wilson.
Honorary Pallbearers were Jonah Sharbono, Cole Mercer, and Samuel Coots
The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Kyle Bruyninckx and his staff, as well as the wonderful staff at Hospice TLC, for the care of our beloved Nanny.
