Fredrick "Fred" C. Behrend Jr., 93, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc with Rev. Steven Hillmer officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Glenview Memorial Gardens at a later date. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to the church or the charity of one's choice. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service is serving the family. Fredrick "Fred" Carl Behrend Jr. was born March 21, 1932, in Oconomowoc at Summit Hospital, the son of Fredrick Sr. and Marguerite (nee Place) Behrend. He attended Oconomowoc schools before beginning his career as a mechanic. Fred went on to work in the maintenance department for the Oconomowoc School District. Fred married Evelyn Neitzel on July 23, 1966, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Together, they shared 59 years and lovingly raised three children.

Fred will be remembered for his capable hands and his even sharper mind. A passionate bowhunter and fisherman, he also found great satisfaction in the mechanics of cars and the steady tracks of his model trains. He was a man who knew how things worked and how to fix them. Fred's legendary memory for names, dates, and prices remained intact until the very end, making him a captivating storyteller and an invaluable resource on Oconomowoc history.

Fred is survived by his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Rebecca (Tim) Koch and their children: Stephanie (Luke) Ryan, Zachary (fiancé Rachel Taylor) Koch, Kelly Koch, and Julie Koch; daughter, Kendra (Steve) Grzenia and their children: Trent Grzenia, Kirstin Grzenia, and Sophie Grzenia; son, Drew (Andrea) Behrend and their children: Livia Behrend and Dominik Behrend; great-grandchildren, Leo and Stella Ryan; siblings-in-law, William Engelking Sr., Esther Wasmund, Anita Schaumberg, Ewald (Vivian) Neitzel, Vernice Weigand, Doris (Jim) Enderle, and Florence Neitzel; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Beverly Titzer, Philip Behrend, Louis Behrend, Peter Behrend, and Bonnie Engelking.
