Fredrick R. Gruen

Fredrick Robert Gruen, 82, of Summit, NJ, passed away at his home on May 13, 2025. Funeral services are private.
Born in New York City, the son of Stanley and Lucille (Robbins) Gruen, Fred was raised in Springfield, NJ where he graduated from Jonathan Dayton Regional High School. He received his Bachelor's Degree in History from Colgate University, and then his Juris Doctorate Degree from Rutgers Law School in Newark, NJ, where he was taught Constitutional Law by former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and was an editor for the Rutgers Law Review. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Milton Conford in Asbury Park, New Jersey. He then worked for a short time for the New Jersey State Attorney General's office in Trenton, New Jersey, followed by joining his father's law firm of Gruen & Goldstein in Union, New Jersey. He eventually became the Senior Partner of Gruen & Goldstein after the death of his partner Alan Goldstein and his father's retirement to Florida.
Fred was the beloved husband of 22 years to Anna Ibatoullina, PhD. He is also survived by his daughter, Dr. Amy Gruen and her husband, Craig Handler, Esq., son, Jeffrey Gruen and his wife Mandee, stepdaughter, Dr. Elena Bruck, grandchildren, Amelia Handler, Scarlett Handler, Tyler Gruen and Hailey Gruen, step grandchildren, Ilya Bruck and Alisa Bruck, and brother Rick Gruen.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's memory may be made to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
