I came across this announcement (nearly 4 years after the fact) when I did a Google search this morning seeing if I could find any information on Fred Sr. (along the lines of whatever happened to). During the summer of 1982 (between my sophomore and junior year at the University of Michigan) I worked part-time at Fred's Gulf repair shop. Obviously I also worked with Joe, who was a great guy, and I'm sorry to see he passed away at such a relatively young age. I have very fond memories of that summer, including the honesty and dedication to their work by both Fred and Joe, and their great sense of humor (it was hard work at times -- you had to hustle with Fred -- but also a lot of laughs that summer). While four years too late, my condolences. John Kemp

I first met Joe when we were roommates at the hospital (I think the "old" St. Joe) in Ann Arbor. My sister, Debbie, came to visit me, and I'm not sure Joe actually said "I'm going to marry that girl someday" or not but the rest is history. I recently sent him a picture of Fred's (his Dad) Gulf service station I came across on the Ann Arbor News' website. What great memories. We'll miss him.

Kind thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time of grief. May your fond memories bring you comfort. God's promise at Jeremiah will give you strength. Jeremiah 29:11,12
