Fredrick Thomas Smith, Sr. a proud veteran, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025. Born in Pensacola, Florida, to the late Glen and Altamese Smith, Fred lived a life marked by hard work and determination.
After graduating from Escambia High School, Fred attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University before choosing to serve his country in the United States Navy. His time in the Navy instilled the discipline and determination that would guide him throughout his life. Following his military service, he returned home to Pensacola, Florida where he worked as a civilian for the U.S. Navy. Later, Fred moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where he built a successful career in Information Technology with the Leon County, from which he retired in 2021.
Fred was a die-hard Raiders fan who never missed a game and always stayed true to his team, win or lose and relished in talking all things football with his family and friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vicky Smith and his parents, Glen and Altamese Smith.
Fred's memory will be forever cherished by his children, Fredrick Smith, Jr. (Tomica), Jennifer Smith, and Aleitha Smith; eight grandchildren, Rhiana (Shaquille Sr.), Fredrick III, Willie, Kaden, Mia, Rhylee, Sariah, and Sarina; and two great-grandchildren, Shaquille, Jr. and RhyLynn. He also leaves behind his sister, Roslyn Smith, and a large circle of extended family and lifelong friends who meant the world to him.
Fred will be remembered for his strength, his sense of humor, and his down-to-earth spirit. He valued family, friendship, and the simple joys of life. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and love to all who knew him and his memory will continue to do the same.
