Fritz Schindler Stampfli “Papaw”, 81, of Burns, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 31, 1942, to Ernest and Leitha Stampfli, Fritz grew up in Brentwood, Tennessee. He attended Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) before leaving college to serve in the military. After completing his military training, Fritz embarked on a successful career in the banking industry, specializing in computers, cash registers, and heavy equipment, working for prominent companies such as NCR and BMI.

Known for his patient and kind-hearted nature, Fritz was always ready to lend an ear to those in need. He had a deep love for sports, particularly following Vanderbilt University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. As a proud member of the Commodores Club, he never missed a game and enjoyed supporting his beloved Vanderbilt Commodores. Beyond his sports enthusiasm, Fritz cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, whose lives brought him great joy.

Fritz was a dedicated member of the Burns Church of Christ, where his church family played an essential role in his life. His faith, along with his loving presence, will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In 1971, Fritz married Marilyn Burgess Stampfli, and together they shared 44 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2015. In 2017, he remarried Barbara Stampfli, with whom he spent four years before her passing in 2021.

In 2022, Fritz moved to Olive Branch Assisted Living, where he formed many close relationships. In June 2024, he transitioned to NHC in Dickson, Tennessee. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at both Olive Branch and NHC for their compassionate care during his final years.

Fritz was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Leitha Stampfli; his first wife, Marilyn; his second wife, Barbara; and his brother, Robert Stampfli. He leaves behind his stepchildren, Pamela Burgess Felts (Tony) Kelly Burgess (Dianne), and Chad Upchurch (Lindsey) as well as five beloved grandchildren: Ashley Burgess Petty (Brad), Amber Burgess Calvert (Jonathan), Taylor Burgess (Mikayla), Jordan Felts (Olivia Jade), and Sheldon Felts (Alexandria).

Fritz’s family and friends will forever remember him for his unwavering kindness, dedication, and love. His legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, December 7th at 12pm preceded by visitation at 11am at Burns Church of Christ located at 2718 Church Street, Burns, Tennessee 37029.
