SLINGERLANDS - Gabriel F. Deyo III, 64 of Slingerlands, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Albany Medical Center on August 18, 2023, after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia M.; his daughters, Kerry Deyo Taylor (Austin) of Slingerlands, Allison Deyo of Boston, Mass., and Colleen Deyo (fiancé Jeffrey Martino) of Marysville, Wash.; his beloved grandchildren, Nolan and Natalie Taylor; his sisters, Alicia Ferrari (Steve), Jeanine Coyne (Edward), and Patricia Guiry (Dennis); as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Gabriel and Winifred.
Having grown up in Albany, Gabe graduated from Vincentian Institute ('77) followed by Siena College ('81), where he majored in accounting. He began his career at the N.Y.S. Office of the State Comptroller in 1982, and retired as a deputy comptroller in 2019.
Gabe's love of gardening, cycling, boating, music, spending time with friends, his dogs, and simply being surrounded by his family were surpassed only by the pride of watching his daughters thrive and succeed in their endeavors throughout the years.
After his retirement, Gabe and Pat were fortunate to have split their time between their homes in Charleston, S.C., and Slingerlands. He was often heard exclaiming, "We're so lucky," on even the rainiest of days. His past four years were spent boating in the Lowcountry of Charleston, enjoying southern sunsets from their backyard, and planning family trips. Gabe dedicated much of his life to the service of others and volunteered with Charleston Habitat for Humanity and Albany Meals on Wheels. His greatest joy was spending time with his two grandchildren, who adore their Papa. Gabe truly made the most of every day.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family, Friday, August 25, from 4-7 p.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. His funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 26, at 11 a.m. in The Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
