With heavy hearts but a spirit of celebration, we announce the passing of Gail Cornwell, age 69, who departed this world peacefully at her home in Bogalusa, LA, on May 18, 2025. Gail led a vibrant life filled with creativity, kindness, and a generous spirit that touched all who crossed her path.
Gail was a passionate writer, talented gardener, and skilled seamstress. Her immense love for animals fueled her dream of owning a farm filled with chickens, goats, and other furry friends. Not only did she enrich her own life with these pursuits, but she also dedicated herself to helping anyone in need, bringing joy and warmth to every day.
A proud veteran, Gail served her country honorably in the United States Marine Corps before embarking on a fulfilling career in Washington, DC. After her retirement, she embraced life to the fullest in her beloved Bogalusa.
Gail is survived by her daughter Leah Magee (Kevin) and Jessica Chapman, her devoted mother Betty Tackett McGuckin, four adoring grandchildren: Jaylyn Chapman, Alex Cornwell, Vinny Watson, and Joshua Henson, as well as her cherished aunt Becky Tackett. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who loved her.
Gail was preceded in death by her father, Jess Tackett, and brother, Michael Tackett.
In honor of her remarkable life, a memorial service will be held at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home on June 20, 2025, from 3 PM to 5 PM. During this time, we will come together as family and friends to share stories, laughter, and memories of Gail, followed by a tribute of military honors in recognition of her service.
As we say goodbye, we celebrate the lasting impact Gail had on our lives, reminding us of her warmth, compassion, and indomitable spirit. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory may consider a donation to an animal shelter or charity of their choice.
Forever in our hearts, Gail Cornwell.
