Gail Leigh Cross 65, Sheffield, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. Visitation will be Saturday, July 19, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Sheffield Methodist Church, Sheffield, AL. The funeral service will immediately follow at the church with Bart Bowlin officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, St. Joseph, TN.

Gail was born on February 12, 1960, in Florence, Alabama, to her father, James Edward Cross, and to her mother, Lorena Copeland Cross. She graduated from Sheffield High School in 1978 and from the University of North Alabama in 1987. Gail loved being with her family and friends, playing Bingo, and listening to music. As a very athletic woman, she had an extremely determined and competitive nature. After working hard to overcome a horrific car accident at 16 years old, she relocated to Florida and was recognized by then Governor Jeb Bush who invited her to speak on behalf of others with disabilities. As a lifelong member of the Sheffield Methodist Church, she sang in the Chapel Choir and was active in MYF.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lorena Cross; and cousin, Jean Copeland. She is survived by her partner, Matt Crunk; siblings, Brenda Cross, Jani Cross Carter (Greg), and Mark Cross; and a host of nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Gail's family wishes to recognize the following people; A very dear friend, Linda Dodson, who began a relationship as Gail's caregiver, but soon developed a closeness and love for Gail that we will never forget; Penny Lee, who also participated in caring for Gail and very quickly developed that same close bond; and Charlene and Earl "Peanutt" Montgomery, who took a special interest in Gail. Their close friendship included hosting Gail on their karaoke stage many Saturday evenings.

Gail will always be remembered for her 1,000 watt smile, her radiant larger than life personality, and the many lives she touched with her quick wit and loving heart. Gail's family will never forget her and will miss her dearly.
