Obituary of Gail Roger Hamner
Gail "Roger" Hamner, age 79, of Buckhannon, WV, died Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Genesis Healthcare Center in Salem, WV. He was born March 12, 1944, in Buckhannon, a son of the late George and Arnie Wyatt Hamner. On June 7, 1970, he married Alpha Skelton who preceded him in death on May 14, 2007. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George Junior Hamner, who died in the Sago Mine Disaster on January 3, 2006, and Robert Hamner; one sister, Dorothy Ann Radcliff; three sisters-in-law, Luella McKenzie Hamner, Katherine Delores Bauer and Vera Barber; five brothers-in-law, Harry, Fred, Gene, Jeff and Steve Skelton. He is survived by one daughter, Melissa Currence and husband Billy of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Kirsten Howes and husband Jaired and Kasey Currence all of Buckhannon; two brothers, Tom Hamner and wife Janet of Indian Camp, WV and Paul Hamner and wife Liz of French Creek, WV; one sister, Linda Hamner Reaser of Harrisville, WV; two brothers-in-law, Pete Skelton and wife Millie of Buckhannon and Hearlon Radcliff of Volga, WV; two sisters-in-law, Debbie Hamner of Glady Fork, WV and Cheryl Hamner of Alexander, WV and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hamner served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He worked as a press operator at Moore Business Forms and was a member of the Moose Lodge #598 in Buckhannon. Roger was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed running around the neighborhood in his wheelchair. Friends will be received Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday at the funeral home with Pastor David Jessie officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Cave Cemetery in Rock Cave, WV.
