With strong faith, we announce the passing of Gail Sue Norris from this world into the loving arms of our Lord. She passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Gail was born December 25, 1944, in Elizabethtown, NC.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stewart Glenn Norris, on November 19, 2024, after 60 years of marriage.

Gail was a steward of faith in which she poured her heart and soul into the community of Elizabethtown. Her strong work ethic was evident in the thirty-one years of service she gave to the farmers in the community through Cape Fear Farm Credit. Upon retirement, she continued to serve the citizens of the surrounding counties as the owner of the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles in Bladen County.

Gail loved Christ; she was very vocal about her faith and worked diligently to carry out various ministries in the community through her church at White’s Creek Baptist. She was very outspoken, fun-loving, and energetic. Gail loved to sing, sew, garden, cook, and just spend time with family and friends in her home. Her journey on this earth was marked with dedication, love, and compassion for all those privileged to know her.

Gail will be deeply missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly (Gary) Pope of Wilmington and Suzanne (John) Pio of Kure Beach. Grandchildren are Morgan (Andrew) Carson, Sydney (Brady) Zomer, Hannah Pio (Dylen), and Jake Pio. Great-grandchildren are Addison and Brooks, Bryce and Malia. The death of their “Meme” leaves a great void in all their hearts.

Gail was a devoted sister to Penny Council (Gray) of Hope Mills, NC, and Bonnie (Val) Trask of Myrtle Beach, SC, and a dedicated cousin to Betty Ann Phillips. She was loved and cherished by numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Gail was viewed by all as the family Matron. Her kind ear, wise words, advice, unlimited support, and constant presence will always be remembered.

In addition to her surviving family, Gail was predeceased by her parents, Woodrow and Christine Phillips Norris, her brothers, Wilson (Debbie) Norris, Terry (Daisy) Norris, and sister Cynthia (John Charles) McClure.

To honor and celebrate Gail’s life, the funeral service will be at White’s Creek Baptist Church, 6062 Mercer Mill Brown Marsh Road, Clarkton, NC on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 3:00 pm: graveside service to follow. The family will receive guests prior to the funeral in the church sanctuary from 2:00 until 2:45 pm.

Gail’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for your expressions of love during this most difficult time. Your prayers and visits brought much comfort to Gail throughout her sickness and final days. In addition, we wish to thank the staff of Trinity Grove and Lower Cape Fear Life Care for their unconditional love and care they provided to all of us.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to White’s Creek Baptist Church, 6062 Mercer Mill Brown Marsh Road, Clarkton, NC  28433.
