Gail Showers Obituary
Published by Legacy on Oct. 2, 2025.
Gail Showers passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and fierce independence. Born to Everett and Mary Penfold on November 14, 1936, in Wilmot, Michigan, Gail lived a life marked by deep connections and an unwavering commitment to family and friends.
Gail grew up in Wilmot, Michigan, graduating from Cass City High School in 1954. She later moved to Troy, Michigan, and then Royal Oak, where she began her career at Michigan Bell Telephone. It was there she formed a lifelong friendship with Ivey Woehl, a bond that remained a cornerstone of her life. In Royal Oak, Gail met Harry Showers at his business, Royal Radio. Though initially unimpressed, she was won over by Harry's charm, and they married in 1965. Their marriage was a spirited partnership, often filled with lively debates, until Harry's passing in 2011. The couple settled in Rochester, Michigan, where Gail lived for 59 years, building a home filled with warmth and cherished memories.
As a mother to her daughter, Shannon Trezil, Gail was fiercely independent and instilled that same spirit of self-reliance in Shannon, preparing her to navigate life with confidence and strength. She was a proud grandmother to Kaitlin Trezil, and her love extended to her sister, Judy Hawes , and her niece, Carrie Crispin , as well as the many neighbors who became like family, especially Susan and Nancy, whose friendships she treasured deeply.
Gail found joy in life's simple pleasures: tending to her vibrant flower gardens, cruising her Rochester property on her golf cart, savoring a glass of red wine before dinner, and diving into a good book. Above all, she was an ardent fan of baseball and her beloved Detroit Tigers, a passion that culminated in her attending the 1968 World Series-an experience she recounted with pride.
Known for her fairness, forthright nature, and fierce independence, Gail had an extraordinary ability to make her stance clear, even as her health declined. Her unwavering love for her family and her candid spirit left an indelible mark on those who knew her. Gail's strength, humor, and devotion will be forever cherished.
Gail is survived by her daughter, Shannon Trezil (James Long), granddaughter Kaitlin Trezil, sister Judy (Robert) Hawes, and niece Carrie (Raymond) Crispin. She was predeceased by her parents, Everett and Mary Penfold, her husband, Harry Showers, and her son-in-law, Lynn Trezil. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the Rochester community she so dearly loved.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Michigan Animal Rescue League, Oakland County Animal Shelter, or Abraham Ranch.
