Garimella Ramakrishna Sarma, born on November 6, 1941, in Machilipatnam, India, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, in Fairfax, Virginia. He lived a life rich with accomplishments and cherished memories that will forever resonate with those who had the privilege to know him.
Dr. Sarma's academic journey culminated in a PhD in electrical engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), laying the foundation for a remarkable career. He held a notable position where he contributed to the realms of aerospace and engineering, amassing a remarkable portfolio that included a dozen patents. His long-standing contributions working alongside esteemed organizations such as NASA and the Air Force have left an indelible mark on the field, showcasing his commitment to innovation and excellence.
Those who knew Dr. Sarma remember him as a warm and genuine person whose laughter could light up a room. He was known for his generous spirit and a heart that ensured everyone around him felt cared for. Friends and family fondly recall his telling of jokes, bringing joy and smiles in even the most mundane moments. His love for westerns and comedies reflected his joyful and lighthearted nature, while his coffee drinking ritual was as integral to him as his love for his family.
Garimella is survived by his devoted wife, Lakshmi, who stood by his side throughout their meaningful journey together. He is also survived by his loving children, daughter Anu and son Srinivas, who continue to carry forward his legacy. His daughter-in-law, Ragini, and his grandchildren, Nathan and Anya, were cherished sources of joy and pride in his life.
