Garlan Henry Tschirhart

Garlan Henry Tschirhart, Age 75, of Castroville passed peacefully at the Methodist Hospital on Hospice Care on April 20, 2024 after a brief stay.
Garlan was born in the Castroville Hospital on July 7, 1948 to Henry Arnold Tschirhart and Annabelle Elizabeth Tondre and lived his entire life in Castroville. He would proudly say he was Castroville Born and Bred.
As a young boy, Garlan spent many days in his parents' business, the Medina Valley Mill & Lumber Company, Inc. He learned carpentry skills from his father that would later become valuable in his career. After attending Medina Valley High School, he joined Grigg's Construction as a carpenter's helper.
On March 8, 1969, he married Dawn Dixon of Lytle, and they were blessed with the births of two daughters.
Survivors include his father, Henry (Janice) Tschirhart, his daughters Elizabeth Tschirhart (Rosemary Quintinilla) and Deana (Ronald) Delfino, his grandson Brandon Owens, his sisters Sandra Tschirhart (John) Haegelin and Renee (James) Barrett and other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Garlan proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972 when he was honorably discharged.
In 1972 after the birth of his second daughter he wanted to make a career change. This was when he took a carpenter position with H.E.B. Construction. He was extremely proud of his success as he progressed through the ranks into H.E.B.'s Construction Leadership where he managed the Houston, Gulf Coast, and Rio Grande Valley Regions. His H.E.B. career spanned over 38 years until his retirement in 2010.
One of Garlan's greatest joys was spending special time with his grandson. He introduced Brandon to those things he loved so much, hunting and fishing. They spent a lot of time together doing what they loved and developed a bond like no other.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 10th with a celebration of life starting at 5:30 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Services will conclude at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in Garlan's name to Shriner's Children's Hospital or the charity of your choice.
