Garlyce Keyes Obituary

Published by Harder Funeral Home - Brookfield on Jan. 28, 2015.
Garlyce A. Keyes (Nee Black) On Wednesday, January 28, 2015, surrounded by her children and her husband of 50 years, Garlyce Ann Keyes was taken home to the Lord. She was a loving wife to Carson D. Keyes and mother to Leslie Cash, Sharon Grace, Carson Keyes Jr., and Alison Lesch, and she loved her sons-in-law like her own children, Michael Lesch and Walter Grace. Her grandchildren meant everything to her and she was known affectionately as "Nana". Her grandchildren are Austin Cash (19), Ethan Cash (14), Liam Lesch (9), Sadie Grace (6) and Eliza Grace (5) and to her step grandchildren, Nicholas Grace (17) and Kaden Grace (14). She also leaves behind five siblings but has been happily reunited with her beloved parents and two of her brothers. And it gives us great comfort to know that she is once again in the arms of her favorite grandmother, Grandma Ann. Garlyce was strong in her faith and believed mightily in the power of prayer, especially in the power of angels and praying the rosary. We know that her beloved Mary met her at the gates of heaven. She would want her friends and family to continue to lift her up in prayer and to ask God for mercy and comfort for her grieving friends and family. Whenever you hear the song, "Ava Maria" please remember her as she will remember each of you who loved her. Upon her passing, we found this prayer next to her bedside, starred four times: "O passing Angel, Speed me with a song A melody of heaven To reach my heart And rouse me to the race And make me strong" We are comforted knowing that the strongest woman we have ever known is now strong once again. Please join us in the celebration of her life at ST. DOMINIC CATHOLIC CHURCH, located at 18255 Capital Drive in Brookfield, WI. Visitation is Tuesday, February 3, from 4:00 - 6:30 PM, with a Prayer Vigil at 6:30 PM. Visitation continues on Wednesday, February 4, from 10:30 AM - 11:45 AM, followed by Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM. Internment is at Wisconsin Memorial Park, 13235 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield.

Those years at St. Pat's in Rolla, MO. really shaped our future years, more than we will ever know or recognize.

I was a friend of Garlyce during grade school in Rolla, MO., at St. Patrick Catholic elementary school. I knew her well, and I knew that her family struggled to keep both food on the table and shelter for her large family. Garlyce was a dear friend, and I miss that we never got a second chance to re-connect and share memories. There are very, very few of us left from our class at St. Pat's...maybe 4 or 5 - including myself, Eddie Steinmetz and Bonnie Brenneisen. The rest have 'walked on." I will always keep memories of Garlyce in my heart. If there is, indeed, a place called 'heaven,' then surely Garlyce is there.

I knew Garlyce when I was attending St. Patrick Elementary School in Rolla, MO. We were in the same grade. Unfortunately, I left after completion of grade 7, and did not "graduate" with Garlyce and the rest of my class. I was unhappy that my parents decided to move to Dayton, Ohio. I lost contact with Garlyce until last year. I was trying to contact as many of my former grade school classmates before they and I "passed on." I remember Garlyce Black as a rather tall young girl, skinny, and shy. I knew that she came from a large family, and that the family faced many hardships. Garlyce admitted as much in the few communications we had before she died. I had hoped to communicate much more with her and gather her impressions of those long lost days. Unfortunately, this did not happen. I shall always regret not getting in touch with her before last year. Garlyce, along with Renai Sidie (another classmate and friend) have gone before me. If there is, indeed, a 'thing' called the afterlife, then perhaps we shall all meet again. My sincere condolences to the family of Garlyce Black Keyes. She was a wonderful person, who stayed true to her personal beliefs.

We pray happy memories of Garlyce can somehow carry you through this sorrowful time. You have our deepest sympathy.

Garlyce, and her brother Bill were my classmates at St. Patrick's Catholic School in Rolla, Missouri from Kindergarten through 8th grade (1948-1956...graduating together)and Rolla High School (1957-1969...again graduating together.)

Garlyce was a lovely, caring, giving person. We last were together, in Rolla Saturday 05 June 2010 during our 50th High School Class Reunion...we reminisced 'old times' with Garlyce and another of our classmates from St. Pat's and Rolla High School--Bonnie (Brenneisen) Turner. We were so looking forward to seeing Garlyce this year in Rolla for our 55th High School Reunion. Garlyce shall sorely be missed by all of us who treasured her friendship throughout the years.

May God rest Garlyce's soul and comfort her beautiful family...with love, Ed (and wife Martha) Steinmetz -- Lake Charles, Louisiana

My heart aches for you my sweet, dear friend, Sharon. I know your precious mom, whom you have inherited so many wonderful parts of her character, is resting at peace. She has fought hard and given you all the best that she had. I know you know my heart has so many holes from losing so many that were so close to me. You will never forget her, but that is the most beautiful gift we are given.. Our memories...

You all will be in my heart and prayers daily and I know you know that my sweet Mom greeted her with her big Southern arms and welcomed her to the most wonderful place we will all ever go.

I love you like a sister and wish so badly I wasn't stuck in Texas.

Turn your heart to God and he will hold your hand and carry you until you are strong enough.

I love you!
Donna

My husband, Joe and I are sadden for your loss.

Garlyce and I met in Rolla, Mo and when I moved to Milwaukee to be with a sister and her family, Garlyce followed. (We were around 18 years old) I have wonderful memories of our times together as single girls. She was a wonderful friend and room mate. I actually have a picture of a mini reunion with another room mate Kay at your home when our children were very young. Those are great memories.
