Garnetta’s earthly journey began on Tuesday, April 27, 1948, in Cedar Hill, Robertson County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Noretta Warfield and Jerome “Pete” Carr. In addition to her parents, her sisters: Delma Dowlen, Mary Helen Carr, Dorothy Walton and brothers: John Carr and J.L. Carr also preceded her in death.
She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with St. James Missionary Baptist Church and later united with Star of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life she reunited with St. James Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the Mothers Board and the Kitchen Committee.
Garnetta received her education in the Robertson County School System and attended Branford High School. She later received her CNA License with NHC as a Certified Nursing Assistant where she was employed for 20 years. She was a member of Queen Esther Chapter # 9, OES.
She united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, A.B. Northington, Jr., and to this union three children were born.
Garnetta was a dedicated wife, mother, sister and grandmother who loved spending time with family and friends. She loved making floral wreaths and putting her own special touch on her cooking. All who knew and loved her will sorely miss her beautiful smiling face.
On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Garnetta departed this earthly life to her new home.
She leaves precious memories to be cherished and shared by her devoted husband, A.B. Northington, Jr.; daughters: Jacqueline (Wade) Jones, Anita Northington, Springfield, TN and Nicole (Charles Vaughn) Northington, Nashville, TN; grandchildren: Ashley, Chris, Taziah (TJ), Jessica and Kyle; siblings: Jennette (Kenneth) Shannon, Elizabeth Gatewood and Bobby (Earline) Carr, Springfield, TN; in-laws: Dorothy Ligon, Clarksville, TN, Augusta Osborne, Nashville, TN, Harold (Lena) Northington, NC and Mattie Samuels, Louisville, KY; nieces: Regina Carter, Jacqueline Swann, Crystal Carr, Latoya Jackson, Kimberly Hudgen-Lunsford, Turkessia Davis, Rachelle Gardner, Veronica Whitmore, Michelle Carr, Stephanie L. Dowlen and Demetrius Hubbard; nephews: Donald “Buddy” Carr, Billy Walton, Robert Dowlen, Stanley Dowlen, Paul Carr, Michael Carr, Fredrick Gatewood, Greg Gatewood, Jerome Carr, Marcus Carr, Greg Watkins, Donald Burney, James H. Beaumont and Nathaniel Northington and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
