Garry Weiss Obituary

Weiss, Garry Richard
CLIFTON PARK - Garry Richard Weiss, "Coach Weiss," age 82, died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at his residence. He was born on June 20, 1943, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and was the beloved son of the late Phillip and Rosetta (Koblonsky) Weiss.
Garry was a graduate of Saratoga High School and went on to Ithaca College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. In 1970, he began a long and distinguished career at Shenendehowa High School as a physical education teacher and coach, where he positively influenced generations of students. Baseball was his first love, but with the encouragement of his son, he also embraced the sport of lacrosse, coaching both with dedication and enthusiasm.
Beyond his school career, Garry became co-owner of Capitalland Lacrosse more than 30 years ago. Through this endeavor, he coached and mentored thousands of young athletes, leaving a lasting impact on the local lacrosse community.
A lifelong fan of horse racing, Garry was well known for enjoying the thrill of placing a few bets on the ponies at Saratoga Racetrack. He also found great pleasure on the golf course and in rooting on his favorite Yankees team. Above all, his greatest joy was time spent with his family, especially at the home he built on Lake George. Family vacations to the beach, particularly cherished trips to Ocean City, Md., were among his fondest memories as a devoted father.
He is survived by his children, Scarlet (Brad Griesinger) Weiss, Ryan Weiss and Brandy Weiss; and his grandchildren, Hudson and Brecken Griesinger. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Garry's passing gives me a heavy heart - we've been friends since high school though I first knew him through The Four Sons. My deepest sympathy & prayers go out to his children, and to Courtney. Love you Garry - one day we meet again & catch a Yankee game together.

He is a legend and when I think of Gary I think of the weigh room at the high school behind locker rooms where he would workout while us students were in class. More specifically, when he would do abs and take a dumbbell and drive it into his gut. He led by example - leader- his walk went with his talk. Couple that with his jokes and humor ...one of a kind

I met Garry at the Saratoga casino. He always had a smile on his face even when we were both loosing. Even though he had some great luck! He was a pleasure to always run into there! So sorry for your loss.
