Garth Mitcham

Ervin Garth Mitcham, 98, passed away peacefully at his home on October 11, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Evans, Louisiana, on October 15, 1926, to his parents William Herbert Mitcham and Ladle Perkins Mitcham. At the age of 21 he moved to Fannett, Texas. This is where he met and married the love of his life, Betty Jean Day.

In his younger years, Garth worked in the oil field industry. He later worked for the South Park School District. When he left the school district, he hired on with M and I Electric in Beaumont, Texas. This is the job he held until his retirement.

Garth was a man who was constantly working. Whether it was at his job or around the house, he always felt the need to be tinkering with something. He loved working on automobiles or any old machinery he could find.

Garth was known for his sense of humor and being a person who would always lend a hand to anyone in need. He also had a deep love for family. Seeing any of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren walk through his doors always put a huge smile on his face. He was a very loving father and Pawpaw.

Garth is survived by his daughters, Linda Priddy and husband, Mitch, Joyce Cialona, Paula Beadle and husband, Tim, and Donna King and husband, Doyle; sister, Nellie Rose Stevens; 4 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Mitcham; parents, William Herbert and Ladle Mitcham; grandson, Marcus King; great-grandson, Jase Paul Guidry; great-great grandson, Nathaniel James Spivey; son-in-law, Jake Cialona; and grandson-in-law, James McClendon; and special friend, Ima Griffin.

Garth's legacy will live on in the love he had for family, and his ability to bring a smile to the face of anyone he met. He will be so dearly missed.
