Gary Lee Abney

Gary Lee Abney, age 65, of Cochran went to be with the LORD on Friday morning, October 25, 2024, at his residence. Mr. Abney was born on August 11, 1959, in Panama City, Florida, but was raised most of his life in Bleckley County, Georgia. He was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Cochran.
Mr. Abney was a 1977 graduate of Bleckley County High School and worked at Lithonia Lighting Company until his early retirement in 1992. He enjoyed decorating his front yard for every holiday season and seeing the joy it brought to those who rode by his home. He was also a fervent collector of antiques and was always on the lookout for items to add to his collections.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Bailey Abney; mother, Betty Ann Lyles Abney; brother, Gregory Monroe Abney; and niece Laura Ann King.
Mr. Abney is survived by his sister, Betty Abney King of Hamlet, NC; his brother, Craig Bailey Abney (Ann) of Conway, SC; his nephew, John Wayne King of Laurinburg, NC; his great nephew and two great nieces; his two great-great nephews; his good friend, Forrest Long of Cochran, GA; and his feline companion, Mr. Tom Tom.
The family will host a graveside service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Evergreen Baptist Church, 1126 Highway 23, Cochran, Georgia.
Hardy-Towns Funeral Home will assist the family with the arrangements.
