Funeral services for Gary Eugene Amerson, 80, of Huntington, will be held Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home with Mr. Tim Brantley officiating. Interment will follow at Huntington Cemetery.

Mr. Amerson was born on January 12,1946 in Houston, Texas, to the late Arley M. Amerson and the late Ethel Lee Kimmey Amerson, and died Saturday, January 17, 2026, in Lufkin, Texas.

Gary was a proud member of the United States Coast Guard and served one tour in Vietnam during the war. As a civilian, he became a millwright inspector. He was a loving husband to his wife, Mary, for 34 years and dearly loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends very much. Mr. Amerson loved to cook and barbeque for his family, and in his free time, he enjoyed fishing and riding his 3-wheeler.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Amerson; son and daughter-in-law, Gary L. and Melissa Amerson; daughter, Dawn E. Amerson; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mona Lisa Norton; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Terry Brantley; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Heidi Brantley; brother and sister-in-law, James and Laura Brantley; sister, Tammy Brantley; sister-in-law, Valerie Aaron; brother-in-law, Brad Aaron; grandchildren, Amanda Amerson, Ashley Montanez and husband Braulio Montanez, Jonathan Amerson, Bill Gil, Nicole Gil, Eddie Zambrano; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Amerson was preceded in death by his parents, Arley Amerson and Ethel Kimmey; daughter, Patricia Walzem; and son, Robert Walzem.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Sutton, Chad Graham, Braulic Montanez, Bobby Blankenship, Dylan Johnson, and Joe Johnson.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Shafer Funeral Home.
