Gary Everett Athon, 82, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 15th, 2025.

Gary was an electrical supervisor at Metropolitan Sewer District for 25 years. Gary was trained as an electrician in the U.S. Air Force after enlisting to serve in Vietnam, where he was stationed in Cam Ranh Bay. He developed a love of travel and visited the world, spending time in countries such as Spain, Norway, Mexico, and Hong Kong. But his most meaningful adventure began in 1979 when he met the love of his life, Linda.

Gary loved a slice of apple pie, a cold beer, and a Bengals win. If you were lucky enough to have a conversation with Gary, you never knew if he was going to talk about sports, astrophysics, or the meaning of life. He was a brilliant person who marched to the beat of his own drum, and he always kept us on our toes. Nothing was more important to Gary than his family.

Gary is survived by his wife, Linda, stepdaughter Robin (Mike) Clendening, son Gary (Jamie) Athon, daughter Amanda (Joe Hemmerling) Athon; sister-in-law Gail and brother-in-law Darrell Davis, grandchildren Erin (Matt) Sanders, Derick (Katie) Pies, Jacob Pies, Tyler Douglas, Avery Athon Hemmerling, Natalie Athon Hemmerling, and Everett Athon; great-granddaughter Haven Sanders; siblings Ken Athon, Steve (Vicky) Athon, and Kathy (Jim) Cable, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Gary is preceded in death by his stepson Randy Douglas, nephew Greg Davis, and brother Joe Athon.

Visitation will be held on Thursday October 23, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations Funerals Receptions Westside Chapel 3300 Parkcrest Lane Cincinnati, Ohio 45211, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral service will be held at the same location, Thursday at 11:00 AM . Following the funeral service, there will be a brief committal service at St. Joseph New Cemetery.
