Gary Bayly Obituary
Published by Legacy on Nov. 7, 2025.
BAYLY, GARY ALLEN was born on July 9,1945 in Detroit MI to Thomas Archibald Bayly and Catherine (Risk) Bayly. He was the brother to Pat (the late William) Lappin, Roberta (Bob) DeMonaco, the late Russell (Linda) Bayly and late Larry (Lynda) Bayly.
Gary was the loving husband to Patti for almost 41 years. Patti will miss his fighting spirit, sense of humor and quick wit. Among many other things, she will also miss their nightly 'Wheel of Fortune' and 'Jeopardy' dates, and their early morning breakfast excursions. The UPS, FedEx and Amazon drivers will miss Gary greeting them at the door (often more than once a day) to receive Patti's deliveries.
He was a 'bursting with pride' dad to his daughter, Dr. Bryana Bayly, whom he referred to as "P-Nut". He never missed an opportunity to tell anyone and everyone about his daughter, and considered being Bryana's dad the greatest accomplishment of his life. He always loved Bryana coming home to visit, grilling steaks for dinner, ordering Jet's Pizza, and seeing what she and Patti bought on their latest shopping spree (during which time he happily enjoyed a nap, instead.
Gary was preceded in death by our loving and faithful pet Yorkie, Bella, whose presence blessed and completed our family for nearly 16 years. Bella brought so much joy and happiness to our home. She loved jumping up on the couch and napping on Gary's pillow when he wasn't looking, coaxing Gary into giving her belly rubs, or waiting [impatiently] by his feet in the kitchen while he cooked her noodles or hard boiled eggs for a snack.
In addition to cooking for Bella, his culinary bragging rights included his always-requested deviled eggs. They were enjoyed by family and friends alike, and particularly by Tom Murphy (the newest edition to his deviled egg fan club), with whom he enjoyed watching Michigan football and basketball games. Go Blue!
Gary was an avid golfer and an impeccable organizer of the yearly Boyne Highlands golf outing and weekly Thursday morning "breakfast with the boys." He was beyond blessed to have such caring and supportive friends for so many years, and Bryana and Patti are so grateful they were by his side until the end.
Gary attended Wayne State University where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Psychology. He continued his education at Wayne State University earning his Education Specialist degree in Special Education Administration. He spent the majority of his professional career as a School Psychologist for L'Anse Creuse Public Schools until he retired in 2003.
Per Gary's wishes, a memorial service will not be held at this time, but the family will hold a celebration of life in the future, and will also continue to celebrate his spirit and memories each day. Gary would love if you drank an ice cold Pepsi, ate a big bowl of ice cream (with whipped cream and strawberries), and enjoyed a cozy nap in his memory (just a few of his favorite things).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Annika Foundation, which aims to empower young women around the world
with opportunities for golf and personal development (because much to Gary's chagrin, sadly neither Bryana nor Patti became golfers).
