Gary Bimonte Obituary

Bimonte, Gary Joseph
Gary Joseph Bimonte of Wallingford died suddenly on April 7, 2021 at Mid-State Hospital in Meriden. Born in New Haven on December 7, 1959, Gary was a co-owner and proudly worked alongside his family at Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, which was founded in 1925 by his grandparents Francesco Pepe and Filomena Volpe Pepe. Gary was very proud of his Italian heritage and loved sharing stories about the business and being a part of his family's legacy. A big smile would come across his face when he spoke of his grandfather's commitment to his work ethic, the importance of consistently using quality ingredients and always being thankful for his customers and his community. The love and enjoyment he had working side by side with his sisters and cousins made it a true family experience. Gary especially enjoyed seeing old friends and making new ones whenever anyone came into the restaurant. For Gary this was not a job, it was his passion.
Gary was a collector of historical and toy memorabilia. He loved fast cars and his big pickup truck. He was a member of the Doo Wop Cruisers Car Club and the Blood, Sweat and Gears Car Club and participated in many local car shows. He was also a member of the Order of Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, the Wallingford Elks Club and the Knights of Columbus in North Haven as well being a former member of the Wallingford Rod and Gun Club. He loved feeding wildlife and could often be found buying bags of corn to feed the deer, and always enjoyed his yearly trip to Aruba. Gary was a kind, hardworking and generous man who did everything with his heart and a great big smile and had no shame in telling you that he loved you!
He was a loving brother to Bernadette Bimonte-Hackett, Genevieve Beth Bimonte (Cesar Flores) and Jennifer Josepha Kelly (Jim); proud uncle of Christina Nicola Bimonte, William Cody Hayes and the late Serafina Kinnare. He is also survived by his cousins Lisa Cusano, Francis and Anthony Rosselli and his "fur baby" Trixie. Gary was predeceased by his mother Serafina "Sera" Lucy Pepe DeMusis, his stepfather Dominic DeMusis and his brother-in-law Daniel Hackett. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Monday from 4-8pm in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Place, New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 11am in St. Michael Church. There is a maximum capacity in Church of 100 people, and this will be strictly adhered to. The family prefers that you watch the livestream of Gary's Mass. Burial will be private. Masks and social distancing will be required at all services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Food Bank www.ctfoodbank.org, or the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter www.branford-ct.gov/departments/animal-shelter. Share a memory, sign the guest book and view the livestream of Gary's funeral mass at www.iovanne.com.

Hello I remember I spoke to you on the phone asking would you shipped them pizza to Maryland or I would drive 500 miles just to experience the world famous pizza back in 2020 - you mentioned to me that Frank Pepe's is coming to Maryland soon. Thank you for sharing the family history and the family legacy still lives on to every Frank Pepe's Pizza. - Jamie C from Maryland

Our family are so sad to hear about Gary's passing. My Mother is Lorraine Bimonte, family was from line street. Gary and I always talked that we were related somewhere, some how. We shared a passion for old cars and animals. I miss his daily prayer and his big smile. When I retired we talked about me working for him somewhere. We wish your family the very best. We're certain the Pepe legacy will continue. Be well.

To the entire Bimonte / Pepe family. I am so sorry for your loss. Gary was a sweet man and I have meet him a few times at Frank Pepe's and I was a fan ever since. I sent him a text him back in early March and told him that I was coming out to see him in May. He said sure and I said ok, I can't wait to see you buddy. Life is to fast. May God rest his soul. He was such a kind man with a loving heart. I am so truly sorry for your loss. I will miss talking to you buddy.

I've known Gary since 1st grade when he sat at the desk in front of me. Neighbors growing up on the same street, we'd see each other pretty much every day. The one word that probably defined Gary best was DEDICATED! He was dedicated to family, church, friends, work, and community. Always. The other word that comes to mind is GRACIOUS. Gary never took for granted his good fortune and he showed great respect to each and every person he met. A very gracious man. Gonna miss you G!

We are shocked and saddened about Gary's sudden passing. He was a pillar in our neighborhood with a giant heart who will be deeply missed. We have fond memories of him driving up and down our street in his hot rod cars, plowing everybody's driveways with his quad after a snowstorm, his kind daily greetings on Facebook, and his random fireworks displays. He was a very generous man who would not hesitate to help support school fundraisers when neighborhood kids would knock on his door. Our sincerest condolences to the Bimonte family. May he rest peacefully in God's arms.

Condolences and prayers to the Pepe and Bimonte families. I was shocked and saddened to hear that Gary had passed away.
I grew up in the neighborhood and met Gary at Pepes in my early teens. I found that we both had a fondness for classic cars. Gary was a sweet guy with a good sense of humor. I miss the taste of Pepes pizza since moving away. It's hard to imagine Pepes without Gary being there. It's a sad time but I know he's in Heaven, probably showing the angels how to make a good pie.
RIP Gary.
