Gary George Bound

Gary Bound was 84 when he passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Yakima Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Gary George Bound, son of Robert and Marie Bound, was born on November 8, 1939, in Nevada, Missouri. Before Gary was a year old, the family moved to San Mateo, CA, where they lived for a few years before moving to Yakima, WA. He was one of the last graduating classes from North Yakima High School in 1957, before it was renamed AC Davis High School.
After graduation, he worked as a photographer for the Yakima Herald, where he met his future wife. He married Marlys Swank in 1967, and together they made their lives in Selah, WA, along with their son Kevin.
Gary was friendly and outgoing, and loved talking to people. He enjoyed doing many things outdoors from camping when he was a Boy Scout to fishing in the nearby lakes. Many hunting trips with his son were had and even though they never got an animal the time spent together was more rewarding than can be put into words. Gary also greatly enjoyed rock hounding and gold panning. From trips to the Madras Rock and Gem show and digging up geodes to the hills of Red Top Mountain and streams of the Cascades, he was always on the lookout for the beautiful rocks and gems waiting to be found. Of all his pursuits photography was present throughout his life and it is a passion that he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. Many are the times he would proudly show the pictures of the hawks and other colorful birds that would grace his backyard throughout the year.
Sunday afternoons were spent rooting for the Seahawks or the Mariners and spending time with his grandchildren who he loved beyond words.
He was part of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows here in Yakima. He worked in sales at Montgomery Ward, was a realtor briefly, and most recently worked at the 7-11 in Selah before retiring.
Gary is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Marlys Bound, his sister Judy Webb (Yakima, WA), his son Kevin Bound and his wife Valerie Bound, and his three grandchildren - Tessa Bound (16), Genevieve Bound (12), and Camille Bound (9).
