Gary L. Burt

1953 - 2025

Gary L. Burt, 72, of Andrews, N.C., passed away Thursday, May 29, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was a native of Jacksonville, Fla., and received an Associates in Business degree from a local college.
Gary worked as a feeder driver for UPS for 28 years until retiring. He then worked for Centurion Auto Transport for 12 years. Locally, Gary drove a school bus for Cherokee County Schools for four years.
Gary was an avid musician, playing the guitar at church. He was also a talented woodworker and builder. Gary had a special place in his heart for animals.
He was the son of the late Melvin and Fran Burt.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 35 years, Jackie Burt of Andrews; a daughter, Jessica Bateman and husband Chris of Andrews; four sons, Austin Burt and wife Kayla of Jacksonville, Fla., Phillip Rickett and wife Jessica of Andrews, Jason Rickett and wife Quincey of Hayesville, and Dane Rickett and wife Charlene of Andrews; a sister, Bonnie Simpson and husband Freddy of Jacksonville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Spencer Bateman and Haley of Andrews, Abigail and Austin Burt Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Taylor Burt of Robbinsville, N.C., Logan Rickett of Knoxville, Tenn., Jon Rickett and wife Shea of Hayesville, Mackenzie Rickett of Gainesville, Ga., Dalton and Hailea Rickett of Hayesville, Hunter Rickett and Ali, Brianna and Braxton Rickett, all of Andrews; three great-grandchildren, Austyn Bateman of Andrews, and Blakely and Olive Rickett of Hayesville; and his beloved dog, Tucker.
The family welcomes friends to drop in from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at The Walker Inn, 385 Junaluska Road, Andrews, NC 28901. Music and words of comfort will be presented at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Gary L. Burt to Valley River Humane Society, P.O. Box 658, Murphy, NC 28906.
