Dan Oldfather
July 12, 2017
Gary and I were best friends circa 1970 1972 in Tampa and Pensacola Florida.... I stumbled on this posting almost by accident and was shocked to see my old friend had passed away . Last time I spoke to Gary was in 2010 when I found his number on Facebook or another social media website. I was pleased to learn that he was still playing music. Gary was a gifted guitarist. Ironically I just purchased a red Gibson SG standard, Gary's the guitar of choice for many years in the early 70s and the late 60s. Unlikely that any of you in Texas know who I am but my name is Dan Oldfather only Gary's father or mother and perhaps his sister would know who I am I would love to find out more about Gary's life and career as I myself and up in the Information Technology Field and currently work for college in South Florida . Gary was a tremendous positive influence on my life and I think about him daily I can be reached at 954-214-4682, ( text or phone ) - [email protected]. [email protected]

My wife and I lived across the street from Gary & Bonnie for the last 5 years and really enjoyed having them both as neighbors. As a musician also, I appreciated Gary's talent and loved to hear him play his guitar, which I would hear from across the street when I would open the window from my home music studio. I feel blessed to have had him "jam" with me a couple times over the years at my place even. Gary with be missed.

I'm not much with words, but farewell Gary. I met Gary at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas. We worked together at TI and moved to Boise, Idaho upon the "same desk" merger with Micron. We worked on several non-volatile memories designs. At first it was NOR flash, then NAND flash. Gary was a bit of a soft-spoken electronics wiz, as well as an excellent programmer. I recall a day in Dallas when everyday was hotter than the previous and Gary and Bonnie gave me a visit at my house in Wiley, Texas. Man it was TEXAS HOT that day, even the shade of the pecan trees was not enough. Later I found that it hit 110'F on that day.
God bless.
...Chris

Gary will be missed by all who knew him! He was a superb guitarist and person. I was privileged to have known him and to have played with him in a couple of bands in Boise. Goodbye my old friend.
