Gary Bryan Ferguson, 76, of Shreveport, Louisiana entered into eternal rest on January 11, 2024. He was born on July 13, 1947, in Shreveport to Rhea and Carlotta Ferguson.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service beginning at 4:00 p.m. located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport. Officiating the service will be Dr. Steven Bell. Interment will be held at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 1:30 p.m.
Gary graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1965 in Shreveport, Louisiana. After high school he joined the Air Force from 1967 until 1971 as a Sergeant Intelligence Operations Specialist. He served in Vietnam from January 1968 until December 1970. After the military, Gary graduated from college in 1974 at Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana. He was employed with Melvin Butler Construction from 1980 until 2005. In 2001, he was President of AGC (Association of General Contractors) and represented AGC at a convention in Washington, D.C. Gary was a strong advocate for the construction industry. He umpired the Annual Shreveport Fire Department Shift Competition Tournament for 20 years. In 2005, he began working for Brown Builders until 2012. In his free time, Gary enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and watching sports. He was a Bass Angler until he no longer could. He was a hardworking man, dedicated father, loving grandfather, and a good friend. He loved his family, friends, and dogs.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Rhea and Carlotta Ferguson; and his pets, Casper (cat), Lacy (dog), Charlie (dog), and Bailey (dog). He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Ferguson, and Lindsey Ferguson-Jagers and husband James of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Harley Tackett, Amanda Kelly, Mackenzie Jagers, and Brantly Jagers; and brothers, David Ferguson and wife Janice of Houston, TX, and Chris Ferguson and wife Kellie of Florien, LA; nephews, Brian Ferguson, Kevin Ferguson and wife Casey, Caleb Ferguson and wife Gretchen, and Logan Ferguson and wife Montana; nieces, Kristen Lloyd and husband Eric, and Morgan Ferguson; along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
Honoring Gary as pallbearers will be Harley Tackett, Brantly Jagers, Kevin Ferguson, Caleb Ferguson, and Logan Ferguson. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Brian Ferguson, Mackenzie Jagers, and Amanda Kelly.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to any Veterans non-profit organization.
