Gary Leroy Green passed away on April 18, 2024, in Iola, Kansas.
Gary was born on May 22, 1950. He was adopted as an infant by his loving parents, Irel "Fenny" and Pearl Riley Green. His family lived in Kincaid, Kansas where he attended grade school before moving to Colony, Kansas. Gary graduated with the class of 1968. After the schools consolidated, he often shared that, "He and his friend George Bunnel graduated first and second in that class" leaving out that it was only because of the first letters of their last names. Gary went on to attend the University of Kansas, obtaining his bachelor's degree in journalism. After college, Gary went to work for the State of Kansas where he worked until his retirement. As a retiree, Gary took a job at Dillon's Grocery in Topeka, Kansas, where it helped him continue being social. Eventually Gary moved back to the Colony area, where he resided for the past five years in Iola, Kansas.
Gary was an avid Jayhawk basketball fan. In his younger years, his family spent many weekends at their lake house in Grove, Oklahoma, where he enjoyed fishing and making memories with his family. As a young adult, Gary enjoyed playing and umpiring baseball and being in a bowling league. Two very special companions throughout his life were his pups, Taz and Sukie. Gary was a lifetime member of the Kincaid Masonic Lodge, last May, he acquired his lifetime pins, which he was very proud of.
He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as many aunts and uncles.
Gary is survived by his brother Gilbert (Kathy) Green of Colony, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Austin (Scout) Green, Felicia Benjamin, Tony Benjamin, Andy Benjamin; great- nieces and nephews, Breyanna Benjamin (Jake), Kelsie Benjamin, Tyson Benjamin, Jase Romines Benjamin, Lincoln Benjamin, Riley Benjamin and Beckham Green.
A memorial service will take place at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Colony Community Church, Colony, Kansas. Inurnment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mildred, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to Kincaid Masonic Lodge or Gentiva Hospice and can be left in care of the funeral home. Condolences for the family can be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
