Gary Lee Guinn was born May 12, 1935, in Oberlin, Kansas to Bruce and Dorothea (Bowser) Guinn, the third of four sons. He lived on the family farm southeast of Oberlin, moving into town in second grade.

He attended Oberlin City School and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1953. Gary volunteered for the Army on February 7, 1954, and was honorably discharged February 7, 1956. He married the love of his life, Melvalyn Pollnow, on November 14, 1954, at the Oberlin Presbyterian Church. They celebrated 61 years of marriage at the time of her death on December 13, 2015. One son, LaMoine, was born September 17, 1955. Gary married Marjorie (Jording) Law, a long-time special friend, on September 2, 2017.

After his military service, Gary attended McCook Junior College, graduating in 1958. He then enrolled at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, and graduated with a BS in Biological Science in 1960.

Over the next 38 years, he worked in feed sales for Rite Mix Mill in McCook, Quaker Oats Co., Continental Grain Co., MacFee Veterinary Center in McCook and Guinn Plumbing and Heating in Oberlin. Gary became self-employed in January 1999 by establishing Double G Feeds in Oberlin, retiring in December 2023.

Gary was a member and elder of the Presbyterian Church, which later became the United Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 70 and Oberlin Lions Club. Gary helped establish the Kansas Cartridge Collectors Assn. and was a member of the United States Cavalry Assn., collecting McClellan saddles and accessories. The past several years, he has spent many hours volunteering at the Oberlin Museum collecting military data for more than 1,000 Decatur County veterans. He also cleaned and restored several guns for the museum.

Gary was blessed with a "quirky" sense of humor, an enviable outgoing personality, a love of country and a deep compassion for animals.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bruce (Hazel) Guinn, Don (Juanita) (Merle) Guinn, and Larry Guinn; wife, Melvalyn; in-laws, Myron and Pearl Pollnow; brother-in-law, Everett Shuler and sister-in-law, Karen (Bud) Hanke.
