Gary Harter Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 4, 2025.
Gary Gregory Harter passed away November 30, 2025. He was born on January 31, 1939 to Gregory and Helen Sabish Harter in Kewaskum, Wisconsin. He attended St. Matthew Grade School and Campbellsport High School. Gary enjoyed spending time on the farm with his grandparents. Gary served in the National Guard for eleven years, a year of which was active duty in Fort Lewis, Washington. He married Eileen Baertlein in 1965. They had three children and were divorced in 1975. He always had a love for cars and motors, and spent many hours working on his favorite vehicle, the El Camino.
Gary worked as an over-the-road trucker in Wisconsin and was proud to have owned a Peterbilt truck. He trucked until the steel industry collapsed and ended steel hauling. He continued trucking on his move to Colorado. He enjoyed riding through the mountains on his Gold Wing and could be found on weekends dancing wherever a Polka Band was playing. Gary hunted and fished his entire life.
Gary is survived by his children, Kenneth, Julie and Gwen; grandsons, Eric and Brandon; sister, Gloria (Ronald Konkel) and brother, Glen (Cynthia), as well as nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Grace (Richard Campagna). Rest in peace Gary and if heaven has a dance floor we'll see you there.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at the St. Anthony Chapel in Canon City, CO.
