Gary Arthur Hayes

Gary Arthur Hayes, 73, of Peru, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on September 15, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on December 14, 1951, in Rome, New York, Gary was the son of Stewart and Katherine (Bajohr) Fay, who preceded him in death. He spent his early years in Camden, New York, and later moved to Indiana in 1978. Over the years, he worked for Chicago Rawhide and Bryan Steam, where he built both a career and lifelong friendships.

In 1982, Gary married the love of his life, Jessie Ream, and together they built a life full of laughter, love, and adventure. He is survived by Jessie and their family: daughter Jamie (Richard) Butler and their children Hudson and Sadie; daughter Andrea (James) Dugan and their children Cree, Hayes, and Quinn; and stepson Jason (Melissa) Green and their children Matthew and Arianne. He is also survived by his siblings Holly Kirvan, Christine Kaiser, Lynne Catanzaro, Laurel Holly, and Michael Fay, along with many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

Gary had a deep love for the outdoors. He found joy and peace in snowmobiling, canoeing, boating, camping, and hunting – but his true passion was fishing. Weekends often found him on the water, rod in hand, soaking in the sun and the quiet beauty of nature.

Known for his sharp wit and playful spirit, Gary could light up any room with a joke, a story, or just that mischievous grin when he was teasing someone. He had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor – equal parts inappropriate and endearing – with a twinkle in his eye that let you know it was all in fun. He loved his family fiercely, and they returned that love tenfold.

Per Gary's wishes, there will be no formal service at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in his hometown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation.
