Gary Hilditch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 8, 2024.
Gary Kirk Hilditch, aged 78, passed away on September 17, 2024, in Santa Paula, California. Born on February 23, 1946, in Los Angeles, he spent his formative years soaking in the vibrant culture of his birthplace, which influenced his lifelong passions.

Gary graduated from Van Nuys High School and furthered his education at Pierce College and L.A. Trade Tech, laying a strong foundation for his future endeavors. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in the Military Police, a role that honed his leadership skills and dedication.

Professionally, Gary dedicated 28 years as a Senior Building Inspector for the City of Ventura, a role he retired from in 2006. His career began at the Department of Water and Power in Los Angeles, where he developed a keen eye for detail that served him well throughout his life.

Gary's personal life was filled with joy and adventure, shared with his loving wife of 57 years, Larrianne. Together, they traveled extensively, always eager to explore new places and create lasting memories with their family. Gary was also a passionate car enthusiast, known for his meticulous restoration of muscle cars, especially the '57 Chevy. His competitive spirit came alive over a game of chess, a pastime he cherished throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, Larrianne; son, Greg and daughter-in-law Molly; grandsons, Nolen and Nathan; and daughter, Laura Houston along with granddaughters, Leah and Julianne Houston. Gary's kindness and sense of humor were admired by all who knew him, leaving a legacy of warmth and generosity.

A service to honor Gary's life will be held on October 12 at Reardon Funeral Home, 757 Main Street, Ventura, CA. A celebration will follow at Yolanda's, 2753 E. Main Street, Ventura. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Cancer Society in Gary's memory.

Reardon Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.
