Gary Hellard Kallansa of Fishers, IN, passed away on May 5, 2025, at the age of 78. Gary was born on October 23, 1946, to parents, Virgil Lester and Betty Lou (Hellard) Kallansa. Following his high school graduation, Gary proudly went on serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, rising to the rank of Sargeant. Upon release, Gary went to work for MacDonald Douglas where he worked as a Technical Representative for Harner Aircraft. Following his time at MacDonald Douglas, Gary went to work for ATA Airline, retiring from there as an Aircraft Technician.
Gary loved to travel, and his work with MacDonald Douglas took him around the world. In his spare time, Gary enjoyed cars, aviation and following his retirement, he very much enjoyed tackling small engine repairs. Gary’s biggest love, however, was spending time with family and enjoying family gatherings.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Betty Lou.
Gary is survived by his sisters, Karen Sue Garrett and Christine Lynn Bonebrake (Clark); nieces and nephews: Michelle Rost (Paul), Patricia Peo (Mike) Joseph Bonebrake (Laurie), Aaron Garrett and Sarah Williams (Chris); five great-nieces; four great-nephews; and one great-great niece.
Visitation will be held from 9:30am until 11:00am on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis), where funeral services will immediately follow, beginning at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow services in Washington Park East Cemetery.
