I met Gary Looney in the summer of 1971 at a Church league sponsored softball game. Several other friends were playing on the same team as Gary at their Church in the Paxson area. At the end of the summer, I enlisted into the USAF and served my four years and returned to Jacksonville where I began working at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. After several months, we were both selected to attend the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Police Academy. Our paths seemed to continue to cross as we both were selected to work in the same police zone after graduating from the Academy, I had always considered Gary a Great Friend. Our career paths were not mirroring but our paths seemed to always cross in our career fields, including retiring from the Sheriff's Office around the same time. We were both Deputy Sheriff's together, and Gary climbed the rank ladder and became a Police Sgt and a Lieutenant Commanding several squads of police personnel. After our retirements from the Sheriff's Office and retiring a second time from our private sector jobs, we began riding our motorcycles together, and traveling the world with our spouses, to name a few areas; Europe, the Baltic Region that included Russia, the Carribean Islands, including Cuba, the Northeastern states and the Western portions of the United States. Gary always wanted to be busy and continued to work after he began feeling bad and later needed assistance using a walker. Gary always included his entire family in his life and also on some occasions would invite my wife and I to attend the events along with his family. We are both brothers of Morocco Shrine and attended the many gatherings and functions that the Shriner's orchestrated. My wife and I, along with our daughter and son know Gary, Kathy, Angela, Adam and all their grandchildren. We will all miss our bi-weekly motorcycle rides visiting coffee shops, lunches and other gatherings that included several other retired JSO friend members. God Blessed Gary Looney as a Christian Family man and I will always call him my friend. Thanks Gary! for all the fond memories and we will catch up later. Praying for you Kathy and the entire Looney Family! Thanks, Tommy and Cheryl Lumpkin
