Gary Glade Lundell
March 16, 1946 – November 25, 2025
Gary Glade Lundell passed away on November 25, 2025 at the age of 79 in the George E.
Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home.
Gary was born on March 16, 1946 to Glade and Donna Lundell in Spokane, Washington. Asa toddler, his family moved to Washington Terrace, Utah. There, his family grew to eight, pressing his modest childhood home to burst at the seams. Gary recalled that it did notstop his parents from bringing in others to live with them for, sometimes, months at a time.
Gary spent his time playing outside as a child. He would never pass up an opportunity to
jump on his bike and ride down to the Weber River with his buddies to go swimming and
fishing. His love for the outdoors lasted his entire life. His children are filled with childhood memories of camping and fishing. He would push his old Ford Bronco to the limits, one time even nearly floating down the stream with his four young daughters sitting on the hood of the vehicle.
As Gary entered his teenage years, he worked a number of different jobs. He started
working construction at an early age and saved money to serve a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was called to serve a mission in Australia in 1965.
From 1968 to 1970 Gary served in the United States Army. He was injured in training,
keeping him from ever going to Vietnam. Although frustrating at the time, he would get
teary-eyed discussing it in his later years as he recognized the Lord was protecting him. As a Private, he served as a Medical Lab Specialist earning the National Defense Service
Medal.
He started his own construction company, Lundell Construction, in 1976. He was a master craftsman and incredibly talented with his hands. Always keeping his crews small, he truly provided for his family by the sweat of his brow throughout his life. He constantly pushed himself to be an expert carpenter. Much of his work came from building for family and close friends. They knew they could trust him and expect the best. He developed many lasting friendships with those with whom he worked.
He married his sweetheart, LouAnn Lawrence, in the
Ogden, Utah Temple on October 29,
1976. They were blessed to have four beautiful daughters and nine grandchildren. Together, they created a piece of heaven on earth. Although he loved all the masculine things this world had to offer, he was a true "girl dad". He spoiled his daughters with barbies, dollhouses, tricycles and even built an incredible playhouse with the help of his brother-in-law, Bob. He also consistently supported them in art, gymnastics, choirs, dancing, pageants, theater, and sports. You could find him helping his girls learn back handsprings and other tricks on the lawn. He absolutely loved his girls!
Gary loved sports. He enjoyed playing football, baseball and basketball competitively. You could often find him cheering on the Utah Jazz and BYU. As his kids got older, and attended different universities around the country, he quickly became a Utah State, Ohio State, and Purdue fan as well.
Perhaps his greatest strength was that of being a "doer". Gary didn't sell himself through
talking. He served. He jumped in and got things done. He was a giver. Many witnessed his continuous generosity of giving finances, items, time, expertise and effort his entire life. He loved the success of others. Although he loved hunting, fishing, and playing sports, his greatest happiness was helping others succeed at those very activities. He truly lived by the teachings of King Benjamin, "when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."
Gary had a love for the gospel of Jesus Christ. His testimony was strong and unwavering. It was his foundation in this life and in his character. He served for years as a ward clerk and in multiple High Priest Group leadership callings. You could count on him to be at any service project with his shirt sleeves rolled up and willing to work. He had a love for the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon. He also had a love for church history and the efforts of the saints. He would often get emotional when he talked of their sacrifices.
Gary is preceded in death, by his sweet wife, LouAnn and brother-in-law, Stan Buck. He is
survived by his children: Lori Lundell of West Lafayette, Indiana, Colleen (Elijah) Fordham
of Farr West, Utah, Holly (Daniel) Rudd of Perry, Utah, and Jamie Lundell of North Ogden,
Utah; nine grandchildren; and his siblings: Joyce Buck, Gailen (Susan) Lundell, Marilyn
(Robert) Keyes, Larry (Cheryl) Lundell, and Rhea (Varsel) Bott.
We would like to thank the nurses and staff at George E. Wahlen Veterens Home for all of their compassion and care.
