Gary Wayne Luster

Gary Wayne Luster Sr., 78, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday @ 9:10pm on December 20, 2025, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Fall Branch, to the late Thomas Franklin and Ida (Hensley) Luster.

Gary proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He loved watching Nascar, wrestling, football, and spending time with his family and friends. Gary was a Diesel Mechanic for many years, having worked at Richard Diehl Trucking and Smoky Mountain Freightliner.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brothers Elmer, Joe, and Kenny Luster, and his sister Margie Cox.

He is survived by his children, Gary Wayne Luster Jr. (Drema), Terri Melvin (Jordan), their mother Linda, grandchildren, Brent Metcalf (Katie), Brandon Metcalf (Chelsi), Tyler Luster (Allison), and Kendra Luster, great-grandchildren, Huck Metcalf, and Caroline Metcalf, son-in-law Rick Treadway, brother Tommy Luster, sisters Nancy Morley and Cindy Earhart along with several nieces and nephews.

As Gary was a proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project. In Lieu of flowers the family request donations to woundedwarriorproject.org in honor of their father.

The Luster family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the VA Medical Center and to the CLC.

The Luster family will gather to greet friends and share memoires on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Jonesborough Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be Monday, December 29, 2025, in Mountain Home National Cemetery beginning at 3:00 p.m.
